PASTOR'S WELCOME

Hi There, My name is Rev. Tom Moore and I’m the pastor of Emsworth UP Church. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you about the exciting things the Lord is doing in and through our tiny church. On July 15, 2007, I was called to be the pastor of Emsworth UP. It was an exciting time in my life then and ministry continues to be a joy for me day-in and day-out. Prior to my call I was a student at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and a student intern at Riverview UP Church on Observatory Hill in the North Side. But enough about me let me tell you what God is up to in Emsworth. While we are one of the smaller congregations in Pittsburgh Presbytery, God’s mission and ministry is alive in our church. We are a congregation that is eager to serve the Lord, and our size is not a factor. Rather than viewing our size as a problem, we recognize that being a smaller congregation means we have greater opportunities for fellowship, dedicated service, and mission.  We gather together around the Word of God in a great Victorian style church; a wonderful atmosphere for fellowship and worship. As a congregation, we are firm believers that God is active within the world and it shows through our worship. My sermons are rooted in scripture and bear witness to the work of God in, through, and as Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit; both in our lives and within the world. On most Wednesday evenings you can find us in our fellowship hall sharing a joint dinner and bible study. This is the high point of my week and it is a wonderful time to gather with friends and discern what mischief God is up to in the world and in our lives. Generally, we study the biblical passage that will be the focus of the sermon the following Sunday. But that isn’t all we do here as a church. I invite you to explore our website and see the ways God is working and moving in our midst and in the midst of our community. It is my sincerest hope that you would come and join us for worship and fellowship. You can even drop by on Wednesday evening for dinner and great conversations. But more than that, I would love to sit down and discover with you what Jesus is up to in your journey of faith. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you this day and unto ages of ages!       -Tom
