Rwanda Team Introduction

Friends, we’re so excited to be starting our preparations for the Rwanda trip! There are three of us total attending this travel study seminar: myself (Pastor Charissa), Elder Tom Smart from Emsworth, and Elder Martha Markivich from St. Andrew’s. We will leave on Sunday, March 10th at 4pm and Martha and Tom get back at the end of the seminar on March 22nd. I will be staying on another two weeks. My husband and kids will be meeting me there and we’re going to travel Uganda and Rwanda together with friends who are doing justice and reconciliation work in Kampala.

You can read more about the Rwanda TSS here.

We will use this blog to keep you all updated on how our preparations are going and share photos, stories, and more while we are on the trip. If you haven’t yet signed up for the email updates, you can sign up here.

Here are the ways you can be supporting us through this journey, along with following the blog.

  1. Prayer. Please keep praying for us as we read and study for the seminar, as we travel, as we meet new people, and as we learn and grow. Also pray for the delegation from the South Sudanese Presbyterian Chuch who will be meeting us there.
  2. Financial support. If you would like to help offset the financial burden of the trip for Tom and Martha, please make sure to go to the church’s online giving page OR mail/place a check in the plate at church. Please make sure to note “RWANDA 2019” on it so we know that it’s not just regular giving. (There is a place for notes on the online giving portal.)
  3. Come to our commissioning service. We will be commissioning the team at both services on Sunday, March 3rd. The service at Emsworth is at 9:30 am and the service at St. Andrew’s is at 11:30 am. This will be a time of prayer and support to prepare the team for this incredible task.
  4. Consider a trip yourself next year! There are several travel study seminars available in 2020. You can check them out here. You might also consider the Mosaic of Peace Israel/Palestine study trip. I plan on either going back to Israel and Palestine in 2020 because it was such a powerful trip for me last year or on the Hong Kong/Philippines trip. Find out more about Mosaic of Peace here.

Dear ones, your support is warmly appreciated. We can’t wait to tell you all about this life-changing experience!
